In the globe, especially in Ghana, certain positions are typically associated with men who are considered to embody bravery.
Yet, there is one remarkable woman among the fighters of the Gonja Kingdom; Munira Adams.
As Ghana marks International Women’s Day, GhanaWeb presents the uplifting journey of Munira Adams, the sole female fighter entrusted with the protection of the esteemed Gonja King, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale.
Munira’s existence challenges conventional expectations and showcases her extraordinary bravery.
“I was born into this lineage. Both my parents were warriors. I ensured I completed having my children before I received spiritual empowerment, as taking on the warrior role too early could prevent future pregnancies,” Munira disclosed, as reported by 3news.com.
This sacred initiation underscores the long-standing customs of her warrior lineage, where readiness—both physical and spiritual—is crucial.
Munira exemplifies this combination of strength, demonstrating her capabilities.
“Looking at me, I can assert that no one can challenge my strength or spirit, and no bullet can pierce my skin,” she boldly proclaimed, according to the report.
In a sphere traditionally led by men, especially in protective roles, Munira has forged her own identity, confidently standing among the king’s defenders. Through her talents and spiritual strength, she has established her significance.
“I serve as the king’s bodyguard. Although there are other senior warriors who are all men, I do not feel daunted by their presence. The king holds me in high regard for my courage. He recognizes that with me by his side, he has both physical and spiritual protection,” she stated.
Her husband also voiced his support for her, saying, “I don’t worry about my wife. I trust her spiritual fortitude, and I acknowledge her commitment to serving the king.”
Beyond her duties as a warrior, Munira conveyed a strong message to women during the celebration of International Women’s Day.
“I encourage my fellow women to be courageous and to fully accept their roles in society. No woman should allow fear of men or society to deter her from her true purpose,” she expressed.
Her message extends well beyond the confines of the Gonja Kingdom, empowering women facing various challenges in life.
Munira Adams is more than just a fighter; she symbolizes resilience, demonstrating that bravery transcends gender.
