NDC’s Chief Biney officially confirms dissolution of marriage with Afia Akoto

After NPP’s Afia Akoto announced the end of her marriage to staunch NDC member Chief Biney in 2023, the latter has now taken to social media to officially confirm the development.

One would recall that in 2023, Afia Akoto disclosed that her marriage had ended while she was addressing NPP supporters in the Okaikwei North Constituency, where she contested the party’s parliamentary candidature for the 2024 general elections.

She said her opponents were trying to use her marriage with Chief Biney against her till they discovered that they were no more together.

Years later, in an official announcement on social media, Chief Biney has acknowledged the end of their marriage, emphasising that God’s plan for their separation is the best.

In a Facebook post shared on February 13, 2025, he expressed gratitude to God and stated that their marriage had officially ended after receiving back the traditional drinks from Afia Akoto’s family.

“A man’s heart plans his ways, but God Almighty directs his steps. Where God guides, He provides. That journey five years ago has traditionally and officially ended successfully, in Jesus’ name. Baba God, I am grateful for this day.

“Thank you, Apostle Selasie Addae, Apostle Emmanuel Baidoo, and all for the support. I own no copyright to the background music; it’s for promotional purposes,” he said.

Meanwhile, the news has stirred reactions on social media, with tons of netizens expressing shock.

While some criticised Chief Biney for publicly announcing the dissolution, others speculated that it could be linked to a potential political appointment.

About Chief Biney and Afia Akoto’s union

Afia Akoto, in a colourful traditional ceremony, tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend, Chief Hamilton Nixon Biney, who is also the Deputy National Organiser for the NDC, on February 12, 2020.

The opposing political affiliations of these individuals did not stop them from making their relationship official and some persons within their respective parties disagreed with their union.

Their marriage became the talk of the town, with sections of the public arguing that the couple could divulge secrets of their respective political parties to each other but others think otherwise.
