2024 Elections: Presidential contender criticizes Cheddar for recent apology to ‘colonial masters’
Independent presidential candidate Kofi Koranteng criticized Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, for apologizing to Europeans over the transatlantic slave trade.
Cheddar issued an apology during a speech at the UK Parliament, taking responsibility on behalf of Africans for what he referred to as “mistakes” that have led to economic crises.
He urged the UK Parliament to avoid foreign influence on African nations. In a post on X, Cheddar claimed to be the first African leader to apologize for these mistakes and presented a petition in the UK Parliament asking the world to avoid interfering in African political systems. In response, Kofi Koranteng expressed disapproval on social media, emphasizing that apologies should be directed towards Ghanaian youth impacted by siphoned resources and arrested development, not colonial masters who contributed to underdevelopment. He questioned how one can apologize to those who strategically planned Africa’s underdevelopment.

Apologies are only due to the Ghanaian youth whose futures have been dispositioned by siphoned resources and arrested development to our colonial masters . How do you apologize to the same people who strategically planned your underdevelopment and still back corrupt regimes!! pic.twitter.com/MxkdDqS4P4
