2010 marked the peak of my footballing journey – Asamoah Gyan

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, recently shared insights into his footballing journey, highlighting 2010 as the most memorable year.

Despite his successful stints with renowned European clubs and the national team, Gyan emphasized the significance of 2010. Reflecting on the Black Stars’ performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they reached the quarter-finals for the first time but faced elimination due to a missed penalty, Gyan recalled the team’s experiences.

During an interview with 3Xtra TV, the ex-Sunderland player discussed the conduct of some Black Stars players during their time in camp, underscoring the special nature of the year 2010 in his career.

All systems operated effectively. The most humorous member of the 2010 Black Stars squad was Kwadwo Asamoah, while I consistently arrived late for team activities. Richard Kingston consistently arrived punctually and was frequently seen engaged in prayer,” he commented.

Gyan captained the Black Stars during the 2010 World Cup, achieving key goals but missing a penalty that could have secured their spot in the semi-finals.

The retired Black Stars icon officially announced his withdrawal from professional football on June 20, 2024, at 37 years old.
