13 individuals were killed in a tragic accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway.
Thirteen individuals tragically perished in a fatal accident on Monday, October 14, 2024. The incident involved a VIP bus en route from Kumasi to Enchi in the Western North Region, which veered off the road near Kwapia, close to Obuasi, and landed in a ditch.
According to a report by Citi News’ Hafiz Tijani, police confirmed that 11 passengers died at the scene, with one more succumbing to injuries at the hospital. The deceased individuals, comprising seven males, five females, and a child, were all passengers on the bus.
The driver, identified as Osei Adu, was taken to the hospital but unfortunately passed away shortly after his arrival due to the seriousness of his injuries. Witnesses stated that the bus, bearing registration number ER 2445-11, was overloaded after picking up stranded passengers from another broken-down bus.
The bus lost control while navigating a sharp curve, leading to its skid off the road and into the ditch. Emergency services, such as police and fire personnel, promptly responded to the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. However, the survivors’ injuries are reported to be critical. Two law enforcement officers on escort duty sustained injuries while aboard the bus and are currently undergoing medical treatment.
